| CELEBRATING 44 YEARS | ||||||
| In the year 1824, Mexico won its independence and Pio Pico gained control of 133,300 acres, | ||||||
| which was the largest of all the land grants in California. This became known as El Rancho Santa | ||||||
| HOME | Margarita y las Flores. This grant later went from the Pico brothers, Pio and Andres, to Don Juan | |||||
| Forrester, and finally to Richard O'Neill and James C. Flood. Thus, the Spanish epoch was ended | ||||||
| MEMBER CLUBS | in 1882. | |||||
| CALENDAR | The Santa Margarita Women's Golf Association (SMWGA) was organized in 1967 and was so | |||||
| named because all member clubs were within the borders of the original Spanish Land Grant. It was | ||||||
| FIELD DAYS | formed to promote good fellowship among women members of private and semi-private golf clubs | |||||
| within the limits of the Santa Margarita Land Grant, and to afford participation in Association field days, | ||||||
| OFFICERS & | which would be equally available to all members. Subject to the discretion of the Board of Directors, | |||||
| DIRECTORS | any golf club supporting a women's golf club whose play is governed by USGA rules will be eligible | |||||
| to apply for membership in SMWGA. It now includes the following eleven (11) clubs: Castle Creek | ||||||
| MEMBERSHIP | Country Club, El Camino Country Club, Escondido Country Cllub, Fallbrook Golf Club, Lake San | |||||
| Marcos Resort and Country Club, Meadow Lake Golf Course, Morgan Run Resort and Club, | ||||||
| TEAM | Marine Memorial (Pendleton) Golf Course, San Luis Rey Downs Country Club, Temecula Creek Inn | |||||
| Golf Resort, and Twin Oaks Golf Course. | ||||||
| BYLAWS & | ||||||
| STANDING RULES | Any full 18-hole woman golfer in good standing in a member club's women's club, who is 18 years | |||||
| or older, and who has an established USGA index, is eligible for membership upon payment of annual | ||||||
| MINUTES | dues as decided by the Board of Directors. | |||||
| Selected member clubs host field days during the year. The Annual Winners' Circle Tournament is | ||||||
| held at the home club of the 1st VP/Tournament Chair. A two-day "Getaway" Tournament is held at | ||||||
| a neutral course. This venue is selected by the sitting President, who hosts the event. | ||||||
| Each member club fields a 12-member team that competes in inter-club matches during the months | ||||||
| of July through October. At the conclusion of team play, an Awards Luncheon is held at one of the | ||||||
| member clubs in conjunction with their regular field day. | ||||||
| The SMWGA governing board consists of two representatives from each member club. The | ||||||
| new governing board is installed at the first Board of Directors meeting of the calendar year and | ||||||
| introduced at the annual meeting, held on the first field day of the calendar year. | ||||||
| The Patroness of the organization and an honorary member is Mrs. Alice Marguarite O'Neill Avery, | ||||||
| the granddaughter of Richard O'Neill, one of the original owners of the Santa Margarita Land Grant. | ||||||
| The Founder of SMWGA was June Abernathy Renaud. | ||||||
